Do You Like A Day At The Coast? Then You’ll Love North Burleigh Beach

As a Queenslander the list of great beaches that I can visit in this awe-inspiring State, Queensland, are limitless. However, for many of us wanting an uncomplicated day at the beach without huge crowds, with easy FREE parking, modern facilities EG; BBQ’s, playgrounds, clean toilets, walking & cycling paths, and a place to grab a cold beer and some cheap eats without taking hours to get there can be much harder to find.

👀Take a look what I’ve discovered, this absolutely treasure of a place – North Burleigh Beach – it’s just made for a beautiful Queensland day and it’s on the Gold Coast, Queensland. 🌞🌞

Nth Burleigh Beach 💖💖

On one hand there are the very popular “Touristy” beaches and on the other, a lesser-known and less crowded spot favoured by the locals is situated at the northern end of Burleigh Heads. Positioned between the Burleigh Headland to the south and in the shadows of the Miami Headland to the north is exquisite North Burleigh Beach. With fewer crowds (although it can still get packed in the warmer months), this beach has a more locals feel and is one of the best around for a day of sun, surf, and sand. No Theme parks, plenty of street parking, a glorious surf club and easy access from the Gold Coast Highway make it an ideal place to escape to for the day.

North Burleigh could conceivably be one of the Gold Coasts best all-round beaches, featuring a perfect coolness between the surf & sand, picnic facilities, walking paths, playgrounds and some of the most panoramic views of the Gold Coast. In addition to surfing and swimming, seasonal whale watching (ideal spot is atop Miami Headland – Mick Schamburg Park), walking beside the beach or jogging / cycling along the boardwalks there is so much activity in North Burleigh to enjoy.

🔥Tip – Whale Watching: Whale watching season on the Gold Coast runs from May to November, the best time to catch the migration action is between June and October. May to July, you’ll find the whales heading north, from August onwards you’ll be able to catch sight of them on their return trip south often with their baby “calves” swimming alongside.

Nth Burleigh Beach

Without a doubt, the main reason to visit any beach is actually going to the beach itself. North Burleigh is a fabulous area of sandy bottomed beach and rolling surf breaks, sheltered by the towering Miami Headland which offers huge protection from the windy weather so common in an uncomfortable day out on some of the more open beaches. This beach is also patrolled by the North Burleigh Surf Life Saving Club adding extra safety to a day of surfing the waves or swimming in the shallows. As previously mentioned, North Burleigh is also brilliant for families and just about anyone that is looking for a casual day of sun and surf, there is just so much fun here for one and all.

  • 🔥 Tip – Always Swim between the beach Flags as this is the designated area deemed by the Lifesavers to be safest swimming spot.
  • Bring a hat and don’t forget the sunscreen and water.
  • Pack food and picnic goodies, there are so many places to enjoy your BYO edibles along the beachfront.

Picnics and BBQ’s

Just off the beach scattered amongst the Norfolk Pines there is a large ocean front parkland complete with Free BBQ’s and under cover seating areas. North Burleigh beach reserve comes fully kitted out with a children’s playground which will keep the younger members of the family entertained for hours. All the amenities are handy to the playground, the toilets are near by as are surfboard shaped seating that are scattered all around this open space.

Another feature that makes North Burleigh Parklands a little more unique than some of the other locations is the enormous reserve that adjoins the beach. With walking paths that hug the coastline to the north and south commanding some of the most dazzling uninterrupted views of the ocean and beach stretching all the way to Burleigh Heads. If the family have tired from all that sun and sand, the park area has plenty of room for to kick a footy or run around on the huge expansive grassy areas.

North Burleigh Beach has one of the choicest shoreline walks on the coast. Walking, running, roller blading, follow the seaside route along the beach or stroll along the foreshore pathway, both possess the finest most spectacular beach and ocean views. Extending the length of the promenade, scattered along the way are all the modern services you would expect to find, Free BBQ’s, bike parking, water fountains (your 4-legged friends are not forgotten), bike parking, children’s playgrounds, beach showers and plenty of on street parking.

Mick Schamburg Park

One of the other characteristics that sets North Burleigh apart from other beaches is the Miami Headland area complete with well-constructed walking tracks that wind their way to the summit greeting you at the top with excellent views from Mick Schamburg Park.

Views! Views! Views! They don’t come any better, that’s your reward if you make the effort to climb to the top of the Miami Headland. The beach on the northern side of the Miami Headland is Miami Beach. Follow the rainbow stairs down to the beach, then the path to the Surf Life Saving Club and right next door you’ll be able to grab a sublime coffee or cold drink, then head north along the foreshore walking path to Nobby Beach headland Or double back from the coffee shop, past the caravan park (Behind the Surf Club) head towards the Gold Coast Highway, then around the Miami headland and back to North Burleigh beach. This is an excellent walk skirting around the seaside suburbs of Miami and Nth Burleigh.

If you have finished with all the Surf & Sun and exploring all what North Burleigh has to provide, don’t worry if you haven’t packed the picnic goodies, it could just be time for a cold drink or two. You are spoilt for choice with two exceptionally good spots available to get your hands on something to eat and drink – The Miami Tavern or my choice on the day; The family orientated North Burleigh Surf Life Saving Club situated right on the waterfront with some of the most amazing views from the clubhouse has come to your rescue. The Surf Club restaurant has an extensive menu, offering burgers, pasta, Parmi’s, seafood, steak, salads and much more. There are menu choices for seniors and kids, take-away food and coffee options for those on the go and the weekend breakfast selections being a huge hit with the locals.

Highrise on the Burleigh Esplanade

Staying a bit longer, Burleigh offers a huge range of High- and Low-rise accommodation usually only steps away from beautiful Burleigh beach. Steal yourself away for a few days, whether you like an early morning walk, a refreshing swim in the crystal-clear waters of the Pacific Ocean or just a lazy afternoon fishing there are a great many ways to enjoy this celebrated area.

Where else can you BBQ & Picnic This Close To The Ocean

Sitting here writing this blog in the middle of a Covid lockdown has me longing for an extended return visit to this fabulous compact, pristine location. If you’re a first-time visitor or maybe an out-of-towner to the Gold Coast that hasn’t considered checking this place out before, North Burleigh is the most likely to appeal to all tastes, it doesn’t get as crowded or is it as commercialized as many other beaches along the Gold Coast. This is simply an excellent place to go to escape for some sand between your toes and is ideal for all the family with plenty of activities to keep even the youngest members entertained.

As well as the brilliant white sandy beach and crystal-clear surf breaks, North Burleigh is also a good base to go exploring from. From here, you can head south to Burleigh Heads for award winning dining experiences, craft breweries and boutique shopping or set out for the mountains, following long winding country roads and explore the Gold Coast Hinterland known as “The Green Behind The Gold.” So, if you need a break, have a look at what this special place has to offer. Come for the day or book some longer stay accommodation, Welcome To North Burleigh Beach. 💯💖💖💖
