The Brisbane Motor Museum is a new and exciting attraction for car enthusiasts and history lovers alike. Located on Nudgee Road, only 10 minutes north of the Brisbane Airport and Gateway Motorway in a huge, converted warehouse located at Banyo, you’ll find rotating themed collections on all things motoring. The exhibits are rotated every 3-4 months offering new displays showing a dazzling array of automotive marvels that spanned decades and continents. I visited in February 2024 and the collection was aptly named “Stylish German Automobiles and Muscle Cars of Brisbane”.
Whether you’re a fan of classic cars, sports cars, muscle cars, or vintage cars, you will find something to admire and appreciate at the Brisbane Motor Museum. 🔥Tip: I will include a Link to the Brisbane Motor Museum at the end of the Blog.

Here is how I spent a day at this amazing place. I arrived at the Brisbane Motor Museum on a Wednesday morning. Parking my car was no problem, undercover car parking is available at the rear of the building, your adventure starts as soon as you enter the Museum on the ground floor, classic motoring history on display. I have to admit, I was getting a little excited, if this is what greets you, I can’t wait to see the rest.
The Exhibits are on the first floor easily accessed by stairs or elevator. As well as the car show, this floor also has an excellent café, lounge area, motoring library and entry to the Museum. I bought my ticket at the door which then led me into this Aladdin’s Cave of sleek stylish European cars side by side with iconic V8 muscle cars.

My journey began with the elegance of a bygone era. A sleek Mercedes Benz Cabriolet, its polished chrome glinting under the mood lighting set the tone for a delve into these classic cars. Nearby the V8 Muscle Cars caught my eye with a dazzling array of automotive marvels from an era that spanned decades and the roar from these mighty engines made legends of these all-conquering road beasts.

But the museum was just not about glitz and flash, further down the aisle the Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 Super Snake sat pride of place, like it was the leader of the pack, just waiting to pounce. I was impressed by the design, engineering, and innovation of these cars, and how they reflected the social and cultural changes of their time. The museum is not just about Muscle Cars, I also saw cars that revolutionized the industry, such as the Volkswagen Beetle, MG X-Power SV-S, VW Combi, V8 Daimler, GT Falcon, and not to be forgotten the Holden Commodore GTSR.

Further down the aisle the tempo shifted. Nearby, a car of its time, a fully restored 1962 EK Holden station wagon (before SUV’s became so popular), sat pride of place. This is no muscle car, the EK was the family transport of the day. Evoking memories of family road trips, this is a family wagon, packed with camping gear and all the kids carted us away to our holiday destination and days spent on sun-drenched beaches. You could say that this was my original road trip.

As I walked around the museum, I also learned more about the history and background of each car, thanks to the informative labels and signs that accompanied them. I learned about the creators and designers, their technical features and specifications, their achievements but more importantly how these cars shaped future motoring and where they sat in automotive history.

After a few hours of exploring and learning I was ready for a break. I headed to the café which is located on the 1st floor next to the exhibits. The café offered a variety of snacks and drinks, such as coffee & tea, sandwiches, salads, and cakes. I also visited the Lounge area for a little time out and gift shop which has a range of T-shirts, Caps and souvenirs.

The Brisbane Motor Museum is a must-visit attraction for car lovers, and I highly recommend it to anyone who has a passion for motoring (the carrot cake and coffee are pretty good as well). The museum is a place where you can see and learn about some of the most amazing and important cars in history, and appreciate their design, engineering, and innovation. It is also a place where you can enjoy the facilities, journey through motoring history, and a destination for motoring fun. 🔥Tip: Check out the Goggomobile Dart.
