The Sun Shines On Kirra Beach – A Tale of Two Extremes + Vlog ⛈️ 🏄‍♂️☀️🏖️

Check Out The Video – Sun Shines Through, Surf’s Up At Kirra Beach

After two days of near cyclonic weather that brought heavy rain and strong winds to the Gold Coast, the sun finally came out. And with the sunshine, the crowds returned to Kirra Beach, with pumping swells that drew surfers from all over the region taking full advantage of these superb conditions.

Brisbane to Kirra Beach

Kirra Beach is nestled in the corner of a small rocky headland Kirra Point, which separates Kirra Beach to the north and Cooloongatta Beach to the south being situated on the southern end of the Gold Coast, Queensland Australia. Kirra is noted as one of Australia’s premier surf breaks, which is not only a haven for surfers, but the beach is also a popular spot for swimming, sunbathing and family get togethers. Nearby Gold Coast Airport, shops, restaurants, Surf Clubs are easily accessible by bus, bike or do what we do and head out on foot via the many scenic beachfront walkways. Head up Kirra Hill (the views are unsurpassed) for a gorgeous sunrise or sunset or if the season is right, you might be able to catch sight of whales migrating out to sea.

The sun was finally out, casting a warm glow over the Gold Coast as I made my way to Kirra Beach. We were on a five-day a five day wedding anniversary celebration, staying at Points North Apartments in Cooloongatta 🔥 Highly recommended and it was an easy walk around the headland, being greeted with the most stunning Ocean views. I had been dreaming of this trip for months, eager to experience the world-famous Kirra Beach and soak up the laid-back beach vibes.

Kirra Beach

As I rounded the headland, I was greeted by the sight of surfers already out in the water, enjoying the tranquility of the early morning while surfing the legendary Kirra waves with effortless grace. The beach was filled with the sounds of families enjoying beach life as they kicked the footy and built sandcastles along the water’s edge. Kirra was starting to get busy as more and more surfers and families arrived all keen to soak up the sun and get some of that famous sand between their toes. I felt a sense of peace and contentment wash over me, grateful the bad weather had abated giving me the opportunity to experience such a beautiful place.

The surfing conditions were perfect for the experienced and beginners alike. The waves pumping all day long, were clean and consistent and while a crowd was now on the water, there was still plenty of room to spread out. It had been a while since conditions were this good, the sun is shining, the surf is perfect, the atmosphere was electric as everyone was out here enjoying the waves – It’s like Kirra Beach had been reborn.

When the hunger pangs bite, situated one street back from the foreshore the café scene is thriving. Take a stroll along the esplanade with a stop for coffee or breakfast, what a great way to start the day. One of the Gold Coasts most popular restaurants “Siblings” is positioned right on the foreshore. We were celebrating our wedding anniversary and decided to make a booking and enjoy our special day. For those wondering where Siblings is, cast your memory back many, many years ago to when the Kirra Pizza Hut reigned supreme (no pun intended) for all your “eat as much as you can” & take-away restaurant requirements. The food at Siblings was excellent, the range of cocktails unbelievable and the view, well that is something you normally only see on postcards. 🔥Tip: Weekend’s will normally require a table reservation, try for a table overlooking the beach.

🔥 Tip: Almost as famous as the beach, is Kirra Surf Life Saving Club, located in the heritage-listed Kirra Beach Pavilion. The Kirra Beach Surf Club also serves fantastic meals and cold drinks as an excellent alternative for those on a budget. What a way to spend an afternoon relaxing with a cold beverage or affordable meal overlooking beautiful Kirra Beach.

Our anniversary lunch was superb, a walk along the beachfront walkway also revealed a number of other little rock pools that had formed around the Groyne which would be ideal for the kids to further explore.

It’s all very relaxing – sitting on the rock groyne.

As the afternoon drew to a close, we reluctantly made or way back to Cooloongatta, our hearts filled with memories that will last a lifetime. I just love Kirra Beach, and hope you will to, with its modern accommodation, local surfie vibe, fantastic café’s, restaurants, and Surf Club but most of all it’s the thrill of the surf and the beauty of the beach that will bring me back again and again to this remarkable spot.
